Luis Suarez defends his lack of goals for Barcelona

Barcelona forward Luis Suarez has pointed out there is more to his game than scoring goals, having netted just once in his first eight games in all competitions for the Catalan club, but said: "I hope to do a lot better."

Suarez scored 31 Premier League goals last season for Liverpool, a tally that meant he shared the 2013-14 Golden Shoe award as Europe's top goalscorer with Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo already has 23 La Liga goals in the current campaign, while Suarez -- who made his debut in October's 3-1 clasico defeat -- has not got off the mark in his first six Primera Division outings. His new Barca teammate Messi has also had no issues recently finding the net - with three hat tricks in his last four games.

The Uruguay international, who has contributed five La Liga assists thus far, said in Sport that he had always seen himself as a creator as well as a scorer.

"I have always had the label of a goal-scorer, but I have always liked setting up goals as well," Suarez said. "I know that I came here to score goals, not just to give assists. I came here as I've scored a lot of goals in my career, especially at Liverpool. [But] fortunately there is more to my game than that."

Suarez did admit to feeling frustration, and even anger, when he does not perform at his best, such as during Sunday's 5-1 derby win at home to Espanyol.

"I hope to do a lot better," he said. "I was angry with my game -- only with myself, not with the team. I thought I lost balls that I should not lose. I did not feel comfortable with myself at any moment. After games I try not to let it show at home so that it does not affect the family. But I have learned it is not always a bad thing to be frustrated. It's an inner anger more than anything."

The 27-year-old had not always been able to control such on-field frustrations. His bite of Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at last summer's World Cup was the third of his career, following similar incidents involving Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic in April 2013, when he was at Liverpool, and PSV Eindhoven's Ottman Bakkal while playing for Ajax in November 2010.

He said that, following the latest incident, he had finally reached the conclusion that he needed to seek some professional help.

"I have learned that I could not fix it on my own," Suarez said. "I thought I could, but no. I needed professional help to allow me to see things in a different way. Professionals help you with your mistakes, to learn from them. After making the same mistake three times it was time to put an end to it. My way of doing things will not change, [although] on the pitch I am more aware -- I think for a second before I do something. Sometimes before I did not think."

However, Suarez said that, overall, he feels it is unfair that over his career he has been tagged as a "bad guy."

"I have been accused of being a racist without any evidence of what happened with [Patrice] Evra, and accused of being a diver, simulating fouls, but I have only ever had one yellow card for that," he said. "I've been given that tag, but it is a lie."
