Luckless Luis Suarez draws blank in Barcelona's Celta Vigo loss

New Barcelona attacker Luis Suarez blamed 'bad luck' and an inspired performance by Celta Vigo goalkeeper Sergio after his second game for this new team brought another blank in front of goal and a second consecutive defeat.

Suarez was making his official home debut for Barca, following his 80-million-euro summer transfer, and the ending of his four month ban from football for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at last summer's World Cup.

The former Liverpool player however suffered another frustrating night, as he spurned a number of decent chances, while also seeing strike partners Lionel Messi and Neymar denied by a mixture of the woodwork and an excellent performance by visiting keeper Sergio.

The 27 year old told Barca TV after the game that it had been just one of those nights when it seemed impossible to score.

"When the ball does not want to go in, it does not go in," Suarez said. "Their goalkeeper was the man of the match. We created a lot of chances, but we lacked luck. They created one, they took it, and they won the game. We knew their qualities, they are a team which press you a lot."

After completing his first competitive 90 minutes since Uruguay's 2-1 win over England at the World Cup on 19 June last, Suarez said he felt both his fitness and his understanding with his teammates were better against Celta than during his hour on the pitch during last week's 3-1 La Liga clasico defeat at Real Madrid.

"At the [Estadio Santiago] Bernabeu I was good for the first 45 minutes, but then tiredness was a factor," he said. "Against Celta, it was different, I felt more comfortable. The other day I felt a bit lost when pressing, I was missing communication with my teammates."

Although Barca have now having slipped from clear La Liga leaders to third place in the table, two points behind new table-toppers Madrid, Suarez called on blaugrana fans not to lose faith in their team.

"They should keep believing in us, we are the first who want to turn this around," he said. "We want trophies because we are the best team in the world."

He was now looking forward to his next game for Barca, in what is likely to be his Champions League debut for his new side back at his old club Ajax's Amsterdam Arena, Suarez said.

"In Holland they gave me everything," he said. "They made me grow as a player. I learned a lot and I appreciate that. It would be nice to play against them."
