Brazilian defender Douglas joins Barcelona from Sao Paulo

Barcelona have signed defender Douglas Pereira from Sao Paulo for 4 million Euros, on a five-year deal.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Douglas, the club have announced.

The 24-year-old signed a five-year deal on Friday after a four million euros (3.2 million pounds) move from Sao Paulo. The fee could rise to 5.5 million euros (4.4 million pounds) depending on the number of games he plays.

The deal was agreed earlier this week and, after passing a medical, Douglas was able to put pen to paper.

The Catalan club face a FIFA-imposed transfer embargo for the next two windows, which they are appealing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but are allowed to bring players in this summer.
