Barcelona women thrash Real Sociedad 10-1 to lift first ever Super Cup

Barcelona hit double figures as they hammered Real Sociedad 10-1 to win the inaugural edition of the Women's Spanish Supercopa in Salamanca on Sunday.

Right-back Marta Torrejon struck four times, with Alexia Putellas and Asisat Oshoala both scoring two each. Caroline Graham Hansen and Candela Andujar were also on target for Barca. Manuela Lareo scored La Real's consolation goal.

Both sets of players crossed their arms for about 30 seconds at the beginning of a match to demand the signing of the sport's first collective agreement in the country.

Fans applauded the protest, which was joined by the subs from both teams. The deal for the collective agreement was struck in December but it has not been made official yet.

Sociedad coach Gonzalo Arconada claimed the margin of the victory is not good for the game.

"Every team [in Spain] feels that we cannot compete with this Barca side," he said in his post-match news conference.

"The [Royal Spanish Football] Federation will have to evaluate if this is what they wanted. It was always going to be a Barca win and we are the team that has suffered this humiliation."

Barca coach Lluis Cortes bit back in a news conference: "Each club invests in women's football as much as they want to and the percentage in relation to the men's game is very small.

"I wish we could always win 10-1, but I am sure this won't happen in La Liga. Things went really well today but in the majority of games we really have to fight."

Cortes' side will now focus their efforts on winning the league for the first time since 2015.

They have a nine-point lead over nearest rivals Atletico with 12 games to play. Atletico will also be their opponent in the Champions League quarterfinals.
