Player banned for 70 games for referee head-butt

An amateur player in Austria has been hit with a 70-match ban after allegedly head-butting a referee, Austrian media reports.

With his side down 3-2 against SPG Innsbruck West after 86 minutes last Saturday, Ismail Gunduz of amateur side SK Rum was reportedly infuriated after being shown a second yellow card.

According to a report in local paper Tiroler Tageszeitung, the 26-year-old Gunduz then stormed towards the official and head-butted him. The game was abandoned as a consequence.

Bayer Leverkusen have appointed SV Salzburg's Roger Schmidt as their coach for the 2014-15 season, with the club announcing on Friday that the German has signed a contract until 2016.

Sami Hyypia is enduring his most difficult spell yet as Bayer Leverkusen manager.
Hyypia was sacked after a Champions League exit to Real Madrid and poor domestic form.

Ex-players led match-fixing ring

GRAZ, Austria -- Three ex-players in Austria formed a criminal organisation during their careers and attempted to manipulate 18 national league games from 2004 to 2013, state prosecutors said on Friday.

Sanel Kuljic, Dominique Taboga and Johannes Lamprecht are alleged to have fixed matches in the country's first and second divisions, offering other players 7,000 to 40,000 euros to help decide the results of matches, on which bets of up to 300,000 euros ($415,000) would be placed.

Taboga arrested in match-fixing probe

The match-fixing affair in Austrian footall took another twist on Thursday, when former SV Groedig player Dominique Taboga was arrested by police.
