Adelaide United's Marrone could face discipline after FFA Cup ball boy push

Michael Marrone is likely to be in hot water after the Adelaide United defender felled a ball boy in Tuesday night's FFA Cup final, sparking a mass sideline melee.

The extra-time incident occurred when Marrone approached the ball boy and attempted to retrieve the ball on the sideline minutes after Bobo headed in Sydney FC's 2-1 winner.

Video footage shows the youngster turning away from Marrone, before the player shoved him and he fell to the ground.

Substitute Sky Blues striker Matt Simon reacted immediately, furiously grabbing Marrone and drawing both sets of benches, players, coaches and backroom staff into the flare-up.

Reds coach Marco Kurz made a beeline for Simon and attempted to calm him down as others tended to the ruffled ballboy.

"It's not the character for Mickey," Kurz said afterwards. "Mickey is a very quiet boy.

Adelaide United's Michael Marrone is involved in a fight with Sydney FC players.

"I can only say sorry and Mickey is very down in the dressing room I think he spoke with the boy after the game.

"It's not his nature and I hope now after the talk it was okay."

Marrone was promptly given his marching orders and police arrived to speak with the ballboy soon thereafter. Sydney left-back Michael Zullo gave his winner's medal to the ballboy.

When it comes to potential punishment there is no known precedent in Australia, but Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard copped a three-match ban for kicking at out a ball boy during his team's League Cup semi-final defeat to Swansea City.
