Newcastle Jets shock Brisbane Roar, Perth Glory claim first win

Newcastle Jets have announced themselves as A-League finals contenders with a persuasive 4-0 trouncing of a rudderless Brisbane Roar.

Three quickfire second-half goals in 24 minutes dismantled last season's semifinalists, who had the majority of possession at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday but were lacking in front of goal.

Young winger Andrew Nabbout was the star of the show, playing a part in most attacking raids and notching an assist for Devante Clut, who completed the rout in the 86th minute.

Perth Glory have scored their first win of the A-League season as they beat Wellington Phoenix 2-0 at nib Stadium.

The Phoenix were coming off an opening-round loss to Melbourne City and started strongly but Glory took control and turned their dominance into goals in the second half.

Perth got on the board through a Diego Castro penalty and they should've doubled their advantage, but Andy Keogh delivered a powerless penalty effort in the 61st minute.

It mattered little with Nebojsa Marinkovic scoring with a powerful shot five minutes later having come on for the injured Adam Taggart.
