A-League derbies between Western Sydney Wanderers and Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium could become the norm if the opening-round A-League fixture attracts a big crowd.
The Wanderers will open their season against crosstown rivals Sydney FC at the ground on Oct. 8, in a match that is all-but-certain to attract more fans than any previous meeting between the two clubs.
While the fixture is only slated for Sydney's biggest stadium due to the three-year redevelopment of Pirtek Stadium, Wanderers chief executive John Tsatsimas has suggested it could be a blueprint for the future.
"If it's a success we'll look at every opportunity that is available to the club and for all the supporters to be able to attend a match should they wish to do so," he told AAP.
"And there is a massive demand for that product of football in the Sydney area."
The Homebush venue is also due to undergo an upgrade after Parramatta is complete, however the ground is still expected to remain fully operational during its own upgrade.
Crowds at both Allianz and Pirtek Stadiums have regularly reached capacity in recent years, including at Moore Park where there are 10,000 more seats than is expected at the new Parramatta ground.
Tickets only go on sale for this season's opening-round fixture on Thursday, but it is already believed it could break domestic attendance records for soccer in Australia.
Organisers are hopeful more than 55,436 fans will show up for the fixture, the mark set by the 2006-07 A-League grand final between Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory.
"We're all geared for that," Tsatsimas said.
"Hopefully it's a watershed moment in Australian football in that we're able to break a domestic record on that day."
The Wanderers will share their matches between ANZ and Spotless Stadium during the upgrade at Parramatta.
