Adelaide-WSW A-League grand final sees huge increase in flight bookings

Limited flight availability from Sydney to Adelaide in the days around Sunday's A-League grand final has seen one-way airfares rise in some instances to more than AU$1000.

Western Sydney Wanderers will face Adelaide United after beating Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City in the semifinals respectively.

With a high number of travelling Western Sydney fans looking to support their team's bid for a breakthrough A-League title, at least one of the airlines have confirmed that they will increase the capacity on the route.

Virgin Australia has announced it will increase the number of flights between the destinations for the fixture, with Qantas looking to follow suit.

Virgin told AAP it will be adding extra services from Sydney -- as well as Melbourne -- to cater for the sudden spike in demand, while Qantas anticipated a similar response.

"We have seen strong demand from fans keen to travel to the final," a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement.

"We are monitoring the situation and will review options to add extra capacity, either adding extra services or up-gauging to larger aircraft, in the next 24 hours."

Attempts were made to contact Jetstar and Tiger Airways.
