Wanderers top after Adelaide draw, Sydney FC pegged back by Mariners

Western Sydney Wanderers moved into first place in the A-League after they played out a goalless draw with Adelaide United.

The Wanderers, who had the only five shots on target in the match, hold a one-point edge over Melbourne City and Brisbane with Adelaide another point behind in fourth place.

Earlier, the Central Coast Mariners scored two late goals in a 2-2 draw with Sydney FC, leaving the latter's playoff hopes in jeopardy.

Roy O'Donovan scored in the 86th minute and defender Harry Ascroft a minute into added time after George Blackwood and Shane Smeltz scored first-half goals for Sydney.

The result left Sydney two points behind Melbourne Victory for the sixth and final playoff place with three regular-season rounds remaining.
