Milos Trifunovic brace for Newcastle Jets stuns Melbourne City in A-League

Melbourne City FC suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Jets in the A-League on Sunday.

City, who are third in the 10-team division, had Jacob Melling sent off in the second half in a disappointing result for John van 't Schip's side.

Milos Trifunovic broke the deadlock for the Jets from the penalty spot early in the second half before doubling his side's lead on 72 minutes.

Bruno Fornaroli pulled a goal back for City but it was too little, too late, meaning the team remain six points adrift of joint-leaders Brisbane Roar and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Elsewhere, a first-half goal from Chris Harold was enough for Perth Glory to claim all three points in a 1-0 victory at Wellington Phoenix FC.

On Saturday, Brisbane Roar moved level on points with leaders Western Sydney Wanderers after a 4-0 win over Central Coast Mariners.
