Former Sydney FC goalkeeper Liam Reddy joins Western Sydney

Controversial goalkeeper Liam Reddy says it feels as if his career has come full circle by joining A-League leaders Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 34-year-old has signed until the end of the season as backup to Dean Bouzanis and Andrew Redmayne in a return to Parramatta Stadium where he began his career a decade and a half ago.

Parramatta Power, in the old National Soccer League, were Reddy's first senior club in 2000 after moving from the Australian Institute of Sport.

"Returning to Western Sydney is like coming home. A lot of my family and friends live in Western Sydney... I started my career at Pirtek Stadium so the opportunity to come full circle is fantastic -- it feels like I've come home again," Reddy said.

"I'm looking forward to getting down to work and do my best to help the club win more silverware."

Reddy left two of his previous A-League clubs in inauspicious circumstances, including Sydney FC, who terminated his contract in 2012 for "serious misconduct." Earlier this season, he was dropped for disciplinary reasons by Central Coast Mariners, and forced to train by himself, before parting ways by mutual consent last week with seven months left on his contract.

Western Sydney Wanderers, who have won seven consecutive A-League matches, present a new start for the son of Rugby League legend, Rod Reddy.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity of working and learning under Tony Popovic and Spider [Zeljko Kalac] who will no doubt improve me as a player and a professional both on and off the park. I have worked with Spider before and I am very excited to work under him again."

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas welcomed Reddy to the club and said he would be a useful acquisition as the 2014 winners push to qualify for the AFC Champions League.

"We look forward to having him getting to work with our group and adding to the quality we have in our squad as we continue to push for the A-League Championship this season," Tsatsimas said.

Reddy will join the Western Sydney squad ahead of Western Sydney's away match at Perth Glory on Saturday.
