Western Sydney Wanderers four points clear after Melbourne Victory win

The Western Sydney Wanderers beat Melbourne Victory 2-0 on Saturday for their seventh consecutive win, moving four points clear in first place in Australia's A-League.

Striker Mark Bridge scored his fourth goal in four games in the 54th minute, making amends for two glaring misses earlier in the match.

Dutch winger Romeo Castelen clinched the win for the Wanderers in the 79th minute when his effort slipped through goalkeeper Danny Vukovic's grasp.

Victory boss Kevin Muscat said: "It's disappointing, of course it is, but that performance on another night away from home gets you three points.

"We came up against a side [Wanderers] that was good on the night also and in the main moments they took their goals."

Steven Lustica and Jamie Maclaren scored late in the second half Saturday to give the second-placedĀ Brisbane Roar a 2-1 win over the Wellington Phoenix in a match played in the tropical north Queensland city of Cairns.

Roy Krishna gave Wellington the lead a minute into first-half added time but Lustica scored in the 71st minute and Maclaren in the 86th to give the Roar the win.

Perth Glory beat Central Coast Mariners 2-1 in a battle between the A-League's bottom two clubs.

Mariners took the lead through Roy O'Donovan in the first half, but Glory secured a win that moved them off the foot of the table thanks to a quickfire brace from Nebojsa Marinkovic in the second half.
