Shane Smeltz clinches point to send Melbourne Victory top of A-League

Melbourne Victory moved to the top of the A-League after a dramatic 3-3 draw away at Sydney FC.

Marc Janko put the home side ahead from the penalty spot in the eighth minute but goals from Kosta Barbarouses and Guilherme Finkler turned the game on its head before half-time.

A second penalty from Shane Smeltz levelled the scores but Nick Ansell had the Victory back ahead before Smeltz completed his brace to share the points.

Perth Glory have the chance to reclaim top spot outright when they travel to third-placed Adelaide United on Sunday.

Brendon Santalab's penalty gave Western Sydney Wanderers the lead against Newcastle Jets with four minutes to play but another spot kick in stoppage time from Lee Ki-je assured a 1-1 draw.

In the day's other game, Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City shared a goalless draw.
