A-League: Adelaide United hit seven past Newcastle Jets

Adelaide United thrashed Newcastle Jets 7-0 to move second in the A-League standings on Sunday.

Bruce Djite (two), Marcelo Carrusca (23, 28 pen) and Nigel Boogaard gave Adelaide a commanding 4-0 lead at half-time before Djite's second (58), a 70th-minute penalty for Sergio Cirio and last-minute goal for Sanchez Isaias wrapped up victory.

Adelaide are now three points adrift of leaders Perth Glory while Newcastle are second bottom.

In the other game, Sydney FC eased to a 5-1 win over Central Coast Mariners.

Marc Janko (16), Chris Naumoff (18) and Bernie Ibini-Isei (44) pushed Sydney into the lead before Marc Janko (48) put the visitors 4-0 up.

Substitute Travis Major (66) pulled one back for the Mariners but Alex Brosque (72) added Sydney's fifth to wrap up a convincing win.
