The Newcastle Jets have parted ways with manager Gary van Egmond by mutual consent the A-League club confirmed on Monday.
The decision follows on from Friday night’s 3-1 loss to the bottom placed Melbourne Heart which stretched Newcastle’s winless streak to four games.
Newcastle currently sit in seventh spot on the ladder, 12 points adrift of leaders Brisbane Roar but only a point outside the finals spots.
"After not qualifying for the A-League finals series for the last three years, this is a vitally important season for the club and both parties, the club and Gary agree (the) team requires a new voice and direction to take us forward," Jets CEO Robbie Middleby told SBS.
"Gary has made a significant and lasting contribution to the Jets, winning a Championship in his first term as manager and now, helping to put together a squad of some of the best emerging talent in Australia."
Youth team coach Clayton Zane has been given the reins on an interim basis till the end of the season.
