Stalemate between Sydney and Adelaide

Adelaide United and Sydney FC battled their way to a point apiece in a hard-fought 2-2 draw on Friday night.

Ranko Despotovic opened the scoring in the ninth minute.

Adelaide had to deal with two first-half injuries while Sydney had to negotiate the final stages with 10 men but they still found a way to net a late leveller through Corey Gameiro.

Ranko Despotovic had put Sydney in front early on and things got worse for Adelaide as Bruce Djite and Sergio Cirio were forced off with groin and hamstring problems respectively.

But Fabio Ferriera levelled before Jake Barker-Daish scored a penalty to put them ahead in the 72nd minute. That came after Sydney's Nick Carle saw red, but Gameiro nevertheless popped up to nod in an 82nd-minute equaliser.
