Petratos hat-trick seals Roar win

A-League leaders Brisbane are five points clear after a 5-2 Boxing Day drubbing of Sydney FC.

Dimitri Petratos (L) led the Brisbane Roar to a 5-2 win over Sydney FC.
Dimitri Petratos (L) led the Brisbane Roar to a 5-2 win over Sydney FC.

Former Sydney man Dimitrios Petratos was the stand-out for the leaders, scoring a hat-trick that included three penalties but just two goals.

Alessandro Del Piero actually fired Sydney ahead with a beautiful free-kick but the lead did not last long as Thomas Broich replied.

Seb Ryall then brought down Henrique leading to a first penalty, for which Petratos stepped forward and tucked it away.

He went before the referee's whistle, though, and was forced to take it again, with the outcome the same.

Petratos then made it 3-1 before the break, before wrapping up his hat-trick with another spot-kick.

Ivan Franjic then made it five before Richard Garcia saved some face for the hosts with a late consolation.
