Newcastle Jets silence Brisbane Roar

Newcastle Jets claimed their second victory over Brisbane Roar this season to end the A-League leaders' winning streak and go third in the table with a 2-0 win.

James Donachie's own goal put Newcastle Jets in front.

The Roar had won four games in a row after losing to Newcastle in November, but James Donachie's 35th-minute own goal put them on course for first home defeat of the campaign.

Donachie was unable to avoid turning the ball into his own net from an Andrew Hoole cross early on and Brisbane were unable to respond at the Suncorp Stadium.

Henrique missed their best chance at the end of a flowing move late on, and Jets substitute Joey Gibbs made sure of the win two minutes from time.

The Roar, who dominated possession in the defeat, could now see their five-point advantage at the top eaten into by second-placed Western Sydney Wanderers, who host Central Coast Mariners on Monday.

They also remain stuck on an overall total of 99 A-League wins as they aim to become the first club to reach the century landmark.
