Mariners end Sydney's winning run
Veteran striker Daniel McBreen rediscovered his goalscoring touch as the Central Coast Mariners ended Sydney FC's club record winning streak with a 1-0 A-League win at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday night.
McBreen's clever close-range backheel from a Josh Rose cross in the 26th minute settled the issue.
It was the first goal of the season for the 36-year-old forward, who won the Golden Boot last season for being the A-League's leading goal-scorer.
The victory moved the Mariners at least temporarily to fourth, one spot and two points behind Sydney, who had their four-match winning streak ended.
Elsewhere, Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder Aaron Mooy's strike on the stroke of half-time prevented Melbourne Heart from earning their first league victory of the season.
David Williams had given Melbourne a 38th-minute lead but the rock bottom club's winless streak stretched to nine games when Mooy netted just before the interval to rescue a 1-1 draw for the Wanderers.
