Melbourne Victory moved up to third in the A-League table despite a 0-0 draw at Central Coast Mariners on Friday.

The visitors dominated at the Bluetongue Stadium, but a combination of poor finishing and some fine goalkeeping from the Mariners' Liam Reddy denied them the win which would have seen the Victory climb to within a point of leaders Brisbane Roar.

Victory skipper Mark Milligan missed two gilt-edged chances late in the first half, while veteran striker Archie Thompson headed wide five minutes after the restart when he ought to have hit the target.

Two Victory substitutes nearly combined for the winner in the 80th minute after Connor Pain provided the pass for Guilherme Finkler to shoot. However, Reddy was equal to the task as he continued to keep his side in the match.
