Wanderers, Adelaide in 1-1 pre-season draw

Western Sydney Wanderers have drawn 1-1 with A-League rivals Adelaide United on Sunday in a pre-season fixture at Penrith.

An own goal from Adelaide's Nigel Boogaard opened the scoring in just the seventh minute.

The Wanderers created the better chances of the first half, their best when Tomi Juric found himself one-on-one with Euegene Galekovic but the Reds' shotstopper was up to the task and parried the ball away for a corner.

Adelaide found the equaliser shortly after the break in the 47th minute when Sergio Cirio found the back of the net.

Shinji Ono, Mark Bridge and Youssouf Hersi were thrown into the fray by Wanderers coach Tony Popovic in a bid to break the game open after the Cirio goal.

A diving Paul Izzo beat a low shot from Hersi late with both sides forced to settle for a draw.

The A-League season begins on October 11.
