Langerak skips Australia match to sort out Stuttgart 'issues,' Levante circles

Socceroos goalkeeper Mitch Langerak has been ruled out of Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Japan and has been given leave to sort out "issues" with his German club VfB Stuttgart.

Adam Federici will join the team's camp in Tokyo on Wednesday evening as his replacement.

Langerak, 29, has not played a single minute this season for the Bundesliga side after helping them win promotion from Germany's second tier and is believed to be investigating his options ahead of the closure of the European transfer window on Aug. 31.

Fox Sports reports that La Liga club Levante are leading the race for the former Melbourne Victory man's signature.

"Mitch has some issues at club level that he needs to resolve," Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou said.

"Speaking with Mitch, it was in our mutual interests that he focus on that at the moment rather than come into camp.

"Adam is a very experienced goalkeeper and we know we will have three very good options in that position for the upcoming matches."

Stuttgart's recruitment of German gloveman Ron-Robert Zieler in the offseason has relegated Langerak to second-choice at the club.

He was expected to be on the bench against Japan with Mathew Ryan, who has enjoyed a strong start to the Premier League season for Brighton and Hove Albion, likely to start.

That bench spot is now set to fall to Danny Vukovic, who has made four starts for new Belgian club KRC Genk, with Federici also frozen out of first-team action at Bournemouth.

"All other members of the squad have arrived in Japan and are fit and ready to play," Postecoglou said.
