Danny Vukovic's Racing Genk move an inspiration to Socceroos teammates

Danny Vukovic's move to European football at 32 should serve as an inspiration to other aspirational Australians, according to Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou.

The Sydney FC goalkeeper has been released from his tenure at the A-League club and will sign for Belgian club Genk in the coming days.

It's a case of better late than never for the A-League stalwart, who tried but failed to make the grade on two previous overseas moves to Turkey and Japan.

An incredible 2016-17 season, in which Vukovic won the title and set a record for clean sheets, provided the basis for the move.

Postecoglou said it was "great news" for the gloveman currently in Russia with the Confederations Cup squad.

"It's great for him and great for us because we get another player playing in a top league," he said.

"You always stack up whoever comes in with the guys who are already in the team -- two very good goalkeepers -- and Danny didn't look out of place.

"It's a great story. The guys that have the dream of playing overseas, it shouldn't diminish because of a certain age or [if they] have had certain experiences in the past."

The comments should have rung in the ears of the man sitting next to Postecoglou as he made the comments, Mark Milligan.

Milligan -- who joined Postecoglou at a press conference before the Socceroos' meeting with Cameroon -- is hoping to secure a similar move.

The 31-year-old has experience in Japan, China and the United Arab Emirates but has made no secret of his desire to play in a top European league.

Milligan is one of a bunch of Socceroos -- including uncontracted pair James Troisi and Robbie Kruse -- that would greatly benefit from new homes, with just 12 months to go until the World Cup.

But Vukovic joins a longer list of Australians in the national team frame to have improved their lot as the showpiece tournament nears.
