Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone sent to stands in semi vs. Arsenal

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone was sent to the stands within the first 15 minutes of his side's 1-1 Europe League semifinal draw at Arsenal on Thursday for protesting the sending off of Atleti defender Sime Vrsaljko.

The hosts received a boost after only 10 minutes when Atletico were reduced to 10 men after Croatia international Vrsaljko, booked for an early challenge on Jack Wilshere, picked up a second yellow for a late tackle on Alexandre Lacazette.

Minutes later, Simeone was sent to the stands for dissent for protesting the second caution on Vrsaljko and calling for a card on Hector Bellerin for a foul on Lucas Hernandez.

The Argentine boss barked obscenities in Spanish toward match referee Clement Turpin during the tirade.

Atletico assistant German Burgos assumed managerial duties in his absence.

Atletico Madrid, who've suffered a rash of injuries and departures since January, were considered favourites to advance in the tie.
