Sevilla will take legal action against former player Vitolo, Atletico Madrid and Las Palmas following the winger's questionable transfer to Diego Simeone's side last week.

Atleti confirmed the capture of Vitolo from Sevilla in a deal that saw the Spain international trigger his own €37.5 million release clause, with the intention of loaning him to Las Palmas for the first half of the 2017-18 season while the Madrid club served a transfer ban.

The move came two days after Sevilla president Jose Castro had announced that his club had an agreement in place to re-sign Vitolo, telling reporters gathered for the unveiling of new recruits Ever Banega and Guido Pizarro: "Today you can say that Vitolo is a Sevilla player."

However, days after, the 27-year-old visited La Liga's offices in Madrid accompanied by a Las Palmas director, and Atletico confirmed the details in a club statement soon afterwards.

Sevilla issued a statement on Friday stating their intention to pursue the matter in court.

"The board of directors have agreed to take legal action against those who have intervened in the departure of Vitolo from the club, they are the player himself, his father, the representation agency Bahia and the clubs Atletico Madrid and Las Palmas.

"The club has already entrusted two law firms to the case to defend the interests of the club. Sevilla FC reached a renewal agreement with Vitolo on July 10, endorsed by written documentation, which the player decided to break unilaterally."

Vitolo, a Las Palmas academy product, joined Sevilla from the club for €3.2m in 2013.

He appeared in 43 matches over all competitions last season, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists.
