Atletico's Antoine Griezmann eyes improvement after defeat of Valencia

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann says he wants to "improve each year" after his latest double in Sunday afternoon's 3-0 La Liga victory at home to Valencia.

Griezmann scored two excellent goals, with compatriot Kevin Gameiro grabbing the other, as Atletico eased to a straightforward win over a limp Los Che side at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

The €30 million signing from Real Sociedad marked his 100th La Liga appearance for Atletico by scoring his 56th goal in the competition, while he has also given 15 assists in those outings.

"I feel good, happy with my performances," Griezmann said. "I always try and improve each year. This is the path. I hope to keep helping the team."

The result returned Atletico to fourth place in the La Liga standings, one point above fellow Champions League qualification hopefuls Real Sociedad, and six behind third placed Sevilla who play at Alaves on Monday night.

"We wanted the three points, to win in front of our fans, and to play a good game," Griezmann said. "And we did that."

Griezmann also said that he was delighted that teammate Fernando Torres, who was hospitalised after losing consciousness during Thursday's 1-1 draw at Deportivo La Coruna, but was in attendance at the Calderon after returning to the Spanish capital earlier on Sunday morning.

"We are happy that [Torres] was here," he said. "I hope he can be back training as soon as possible. We need him and we are happy that he is okay."
