Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone wants consistency from forwards

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has called for "more consistency" from his misfiring forwards.

The club's forwards have scored 19 goals in 19 games between them, with Antoine Griezmann having scored eight, Kevin Gameiro six, Angel Correa three and Fernando Torres two.

Atletico have endured their worst first half of a season under Simeone, with the team in fifth place.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg at Eibar, the coach said he hoped his strikers would rediscover their threat.

"With forwards it is about the moment, different situations," he said. "But there is a balance between the calm which they get from their coach and their teammates, and the internal strength which makes them rebel against situations.

"We have very good forwards with different characteristics. That is good for the team, but I hope they have more consistency, which the team needs."

Griezmann is the club's top scorer this term with 14 goals in all competitions so far and is the only player rested by Simeone, whose side go into the trip to Eibar with a 3-0 lead.

"He is not going to travel, he had a day off today and tomorrow he will train at El Cerro," the coach said.
