Antoine Griezmann not worried about Atletico Madrid lack of goals

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann says his team remained confident in their ability to score goals, speaking after another blank in Wednesday's 1-0 Champions League group defeat at Bayern Munich.

Griezmann has not scored in La Liga in 604 minutes of action, his longest goalless streak in the league since joining Atletico in summer 2014, although in the Champions League he did net in recent weeks against both PSV Eindhoven and Rostov as qualification for the round of 16 was secured.

Diego Simeone's side as a whole have only scored in two of their last six games in La Liga and the Champions League, and the team again struggled to find the net in Munich, with Yannick Carrasco missing their two best chances and Griezmann himself having zero shots at goal through the 90 minutes.

Speaking in the Allianz Arena mixed zone after Bayern's Robert Lewandowski had scored the game's only goal, the France international said that he felt his team were getting back into gear and would do well in their next La Liga game at Villarreal on Monday.

"It was a pity that they managed to score the free kick," Griezmann said. "The final part of the game was the best 20 minutes we have played in a long time. We had all been back helping to defend, but then we had some chances we were unable to convert.

"We have confidence in ourselves and the work of the boss. For sure we will play a good game on Monday."

Atletico next face Villarreal, who are two points behind them in fifth place in La Liga's table.

With Atletico already confirmed as group winners due to earlier results, €25 million summer signing Nicolas Gaitan was given a first start in six weeks other than in the Copa del Rey, but the Argentina international was again unable to really influence the play and was withdrawn by Simeone on the hour mark.

Speaking afterwards, Gaitan said he was not concerned, but knew he had to take advantage when given a chance to impress.

"I must try and take advantage of the minutes I get on the pitch," the former Benfica playmaker said. "I am relaxed about the situation, and hoping to do as well as possible when I get to play."
