Antoine Griezmann's foot not broken, Atletico Madrid confirm

Antoine Griezmann did not suffer a broken foot while on international duty with France, Atletico Madrid have confirmed.

The 25-year-old left France's 2-1 win over Sweden on Friday and will not play in a friendly against the Ivory Coast.

There was a fear that Griezmann had a broken bone in his foot, but medical tests confirmed that X-rays were negative for fractures.

"In the X-ray that was completed [on Saturday], an injury to the bone was ruled out, and the diagnosis indicates that he has suffered a trauma with a hematoma on the left foot," an Atletico statement said.

"Both the medical services of the France national team and those of Atletico Madrid have agreed for the Frenchman to return to Madrid, where he has already been placed in the hands of our physiotherapists.

"During the day on Monday, he will continue with a new course of treatment and his recovery will continue to be assessed."

Griezmann will now face a fitness race this week ahead of Saturday's Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon.

The midfielder told Marca after the game that he would do everything he could to be fit before next weekend.

"It's not too serious," he said. "But I have to work morning, afternoon and night to be ready."
