Yannick Carrasco signs new contract with Atletico Madrid until 2022

Atletico Madrid midfielder Yannick Carrasco has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

Carrasco, 23, has now committed himself to Diego Simeone's side until 2022.

"It's big news for Atletico Madrid. Carrasco has enormous potential," Atletico sporting director Jose Luis Perez Caminero said on the club's official website.

"We are talking about a very young player but with a lot of personality who can carry the team when they need him. His speed and range give us so many alternatives in our attack.

"In addition he has a great shot, as we have seen with some of his goals . This makes him a very dangerous player. We are very happy that he can stay with us for a long time because players of his class raise the level of the entire group."

The Belgium international is in top form for the Rojiblancos, having scored five goals in his last four games.

The former Monaco player scored the only goal in a 1-0 Champions League win over Bayern Munich last month, and his hat trick in Saturday's 7-1 La Liga victory over Granada was followed up with another winner in Europe at Rostov on Wednesday.
