Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez extended his contract until 2020 on Monday. The France under-20 international was born in Marseille but has spent much of his life in Spain, where his father Jean-Francois finished his playing career. Last season, his first with Diego Simeone's first team, he played in 16 matches in a breakthrough year in which he started both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal wins over Barcelona. The 20-year-old said of the deal: "I'm very happy to stay in the club of my life." Hernandez joined the academy of Los Colchoneros in 2007 in Alevin A and moved up the categories to become part of the reserve team in 2014 aged 18. This past season, he also played in five UEFA Youth League matches, scoring one goal and is considered a top prospect for his home country, France.
