Atletico's Diego Godin downplays clash with Barcelona's Luis Suarez

Diego Godin says there is nothing between him and Uruguay teammate Luis Suarez after the two clashed in Wednesday's Champions League quarterfinal second-leg match, with the Barcelona forward appearing to throw an elbow at the Atletico Madrid captain.

Atletico would win the game -- and the tie -- at the Vicente Calderon thanks to a pair of goals from Antoine Griezmann. However the match was a chippy affair that saw many heavy tackles and tussles between players of the two teams.

At one point, Suarez looked to have elbowed Godin as he challenged for a ball, but the Rojiblancos defender downplayed any idea of animosity between the two Celeste stalwarts on Monday.

"So that everyone can be calm, with Luis I have a great relationship. We are friends," Godin said in a video posted on his Twitter page.

"After the game we spoke, we greeted each other. With the eye, these are things that can happen in football when two players defend their shirt to the death.

"In the national team we will get together and both fight for Uruguay. Everything is just fine."

Diego Simeone's side were drawn against German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals, pitting one of the world's best attacking sides against one of the game's best defences.

Anchored by Godin, Atleti have allowed just 16 goals in 33 La Liga matches and a further five goals in 10 Champions League contests this season.

"The tie [against Bayern] is a hard one. At stake is a nice final and we will give our maximum as always to get through," Godin added.

"But first we have an important game against [Athletic] Bilbao and we will try to keep giving war and keep fighting for the league."
