Diego Godin responds to 'arrogant' Guti after Atletico Madrid beat Real

A triumphant Diego Godin has hit back at former Real Madrid player Guti after Atletico Madrid's 1-0 win at the Bernabeu on Saturday.

The ex-Madrid midfielder pulled no punches earlier in the week, insisting that no player on Atleti's roster had what it takes to break into Los Blancos' starting XI.

However, Antoine Griezmann's well-taken strike early in the second half ensured that Madrid are all but out of La Liga's title race this season. Post-match, Godin took the chance to respond to Guti's claims.

"I was taught to be respectful and humble as a boy, and especially not arrogant," Godin told Mundo Deportivo.

"Anyone who wants to can follow that advice, but I'd appreciate it if everyone respected the Atletico players the way we respect Guti and the Real Madrid players."

Unlike Real, Atletico are still within touching distance of leaders Barcelona, who are set to play Sevilla on Sunday. Godin, however, was quick to downplay their chances.

"We are long way off at the moment," Godin added.

"We're concentrating on chasing behind Barcelona, because they're playing at an incredible level."
