Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann confirms talks over new contract

Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann has said his representatives are holding talks with the club about extending his contract and increasing his release clause.

Griezmann, 24, has been linked with some of Europe's top clubs, including Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, in recent months.

The France international's current deal, which runs until 2020, includes an €80 million release clause, but reports in Spain last month said the club planned to increase that to €100m and offer him a pay rise.

Asked about those reports on radio show El Larguero, Griezmann said: "We are talking. More with my agent than with me -- I just focus on playing. Both sides are happy."

On Sunday, the forward faces international teammates Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane in a derbi clash with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

"Here in Madrid, we send each other some messages, while with the national team we are always together," he said.

"On the field our [personal] relationship does not matter -- everyone wants to give their best. In the first meeting this season, Varane nearly kicked me into the stand. There are no friendships on the pitch."

Atletico have won their last two La Liga games at the Bernabeu, and Griezmann said he was confident of another victory on Saturday.

"I trust in my teammates, in the work of the boss [Diego Simeone] and El Profe [physical preparation specialist Oscar Ortega].

"We have a good group, good players and good coaching staff. We will do well."

After scoring only once in his last eight games, Griezmann said he was confident that his fortunes in front of goal would soon change.

"I am getting chances, but the ball is not going in," he added. "I believe in what I am doing, and when one goal goes in, more will follow."
