Diego Simeone has 'no intention' of letting Mario Suarez leave Atletico

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone says his club have "no intention" of letting reported Arsenal, Napoli and Inter Milan target Mario Suarez leave this January.

Suarez, 27, has been a key squad member at Atletico through their recent successes, without ever being able to oust regulars Gabi and Tiago for a regular starting spot in the first-team.

This has led to regular speculation that the defensive midfielder, who has been twice capped by Spain, wanted to further his career elsewhere, with Premier League outfit Arsenal reportedly having recently joined Serie A clubs Napoli and Inter in the race for his signature.

Asked about the situation by Sky Italia, in quotes picked up by AS, Simeone said that he wanted to keep the homegrown player at the Vicente Calderon

"For us Mario is an important player, we have no intention of letting him leave," he said.

Pressed as to what would happen should a big offer come in for a player who has started just six La Liga games so far this term, Simeone insisted that would be a matter for the club's sporting directors to decide, saying: "That you would have to ask [Jose Luis] Caminero and Andrea Berta."
