Diego Simeone flags more transfer moves for Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone may need to sell before he can add more players to his Atletico Madrid squad.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has suggested his club could both buy and sell before the summer transfer window shuts on Monday night.

Defending La Liga champions Atletico have scored just four times in four 2014/15 games so far, with three of those goals coming from set-pieces, including the headers from Miranda and Mario Mandzukic in Saturday's uninspiring 2-1 home win over newly promoted Eibar.

Atletico have had a busy summer window so far -- with Diego Costa and Felipe Luis among the players to leave, and three new strikers arriving in Mandzukic, Antoine Griezmann and Raul Jimenez.

Speculation through recent weeks has linked Atletico with still more high-profile attackers -- including Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus, Torino's Alessio Cerci and Bayern Munich's Xherdan Shaqiri.

Meanwhile continuing financial issues mean that the Estadio Vicente Calderon club must now sell before bringing in any more players, and Belgium defender Toby Alderweireld, Argentine left-back Emiliano Insua and Uruguay midfielder Christian Rodriguez could all be moved on to free-up space on the wage-bill.

The Colchoneros coach told his post-game news conference that there was still plenty of time to get deals done before the window shut.

"We will talk about that with the sporting directors," Simeone said. "There is still some time. And we will see if there are departures and arrivals."

Simeone, who had watched the game from the stands due to the touchline ban imposed for slapping the fourth official during a recent Spanish Supercopa game against Real Madrid, admitted that his team had not shone against Eibar but said he was happy with the three points.

"We need to improve and to work," he said. "That is the part which we like the most. It is positive to win. We needed it. From there we hope to have more fruit."

Atletico's much-changed team would need time to click, but four points from their first two games was not such a bad return, Simeone maintained.

"The characteristics of the lads who have left are not the same as those who have come in," he said. "We are doing great work with the new players so that they adapt. The results are the results. We drew, we won."
