Agent: Prem a possibility for Arda Turan

Arda Turan could move to the Premier League this summer, according to the Atletico Madrid playmaker’s agent.

Arda Turan could be on his way to England.

Arda, 26, has been linked with a number of English clubs in recent seasons, including Liverpool and Arsenal, while his former team Galatasaray are thought to be keen to bring the Turkey international home.

Even though Atletico coach Diego Simeone has regularly ruled out any sale this summer, Arda’s agent, Ahmet Bulut, told NTV Spor that he expects a Premier League club to pay his client’s €20 million release clause before the current transfer window shuts on September 2.

“A transfer to the Premier League for Arda is probable this summer,” Bulut said. “In England is where there is more interest in him, and they know Atletico’s position well. The Madrid club are rejecting all offers for him, but if his clause is paid there is nothing they can do. There have been contacts.”

Simeone’s reaction to such a move would likely be volcanic, given the Argentine’s often-voiced frustration at the financial constraints he faces at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

El Cholo told reporters after Atletico began the new season with an impressive 3-1 win at Sevilla on Sunday that there was no chance his team could challenge Barcelona or Real Madrid for the title under current conditions.

“No, absolutely not,” Simeone said. “Madrid and Barcelona play in a different league. This is a boring championship. We must wait for a different share of TV revenues because at the moment this is just a league of two teams.”

Simeone was happier to praise match-winner Diego Costa, who scored his side’s first two goals, just days after rejecting interest from Liverpool to sign a new long-term Atletico deal.

“[Costa] had a very good pre-season, he has been very willing,” he said. “He is such an important player for his heart and his influence.”

Simeone may get to strengthen his squad in the coming days, with a move for Fiorentina playmaker Adem Ljajic being weighed up.

AS says that while Atletico cannot afford the reported €10 million it would take to sign the Serbia international, the club could use third-party investors, the Doyen Group, to finance the deal.

Doyen reportedly helped Atletico buy Radamel Falcao from Porto in 2011 for €45 million, and then reaped most of the benefits when the Colombia international joined Monaco for €60 million in June.
