Aston Villa fans plan to stage mystery protest at Newcastle United match

Angry Aston Villa fans will stage a "mystery" protest against club owner Randy Lerner before their final home game of the season on Saturday.

Villa, relegated from the Premier League with only three wins to their name all season, take on a Newcastle side still threatened by relegation at Villa Park.

Supporters have held regular protests against the ownership in recent weeks, and now the Aston Villa Protest Group (AVPG) has said it is planning what it calls an #InTheAirOn74 protest during the game.

They have not revealed details of exactly what the 74th-minute protest will involve, but promised "a mass release of energy, the details of which will become clear over the coming week. Watch this space..."

The minute has been chosen to reflect Villa's formation in 1874.

A march will take place before the match from the Holte pub to the stadium, where a protest will be held outside the directors entrance.

An AVPG statement said: "As the curtain begins to draw on what has become Aston Villa's worst season in her illustrious history, we need to ensure that this is our darkest hour, that the rot stops here.

"We must leave Randy Lerner in no doubt that we are organised, passionate and that we are above all prepared, and that we no longer accept his ineptitude.

"We must continue to strive for change and, at the same time, the supporters of this magnificent club have earned the right to let off steam."
