Aston Villa fans' frustration inspired survival bid - Mark Bunn

Aston Villa goalkeeper Mark Bunn believes the abuse the squad suffered after being trapped at Wycombe has inspired their survival bid.

The 31-year-old and fellow players endured merciless taunts from Villa's own fans as they boarded the team bus following their 1-1 FA Cup draw with the League Two side last month, with ugly footage posted on social media.

The team were also pinned in at Adams Park with furious Villa supporters gathering outside the main reception.

But Villa have lost just two of their last seven games in all competitions since, and beat Norwich 2-0 Saturday to claim just their third Premier League win of the season.

They remain bottom and eight points from safety ahead of Sunday's visit of Liverpool but Bunn feels running the Adams Park gauntlet has helped Villa.

He said: "We were trapped in the stadium for an hour afterwards which wasn't great. That was the lowest the team has been but it just shows great character from everyone to come back from that. To go from that to the run we are on now is just fantastic.

"When it's such a massive club the situation we were in wasn't acceptable. The lads were obviously disappointed in their own performances and how everything went. As you can see we've grown as a team now, we seem to be stronger than ever, and we're pulling together as a team now.

"I just think they were frustrated with the results, rightly so. We were in a bad position and couldn't get a win. But over the last five or six games we've been fighting and they can see that.

"There were tough times but we've managed to get through that now and, as you can see from our performances over the last few matches, we have a great chance of getting out of it."
