Villa's Tim Sherwood sees both sides of playing youngsters in Palace defeat

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood saw both the good and the bad that young players can provide in his side's 2-1 defeats at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Sherwood put 19-year-old Adama Traore on as a substitiute, and the new signing from Barcelona rewarded his manager's trust by making a cutting run that led to Villa's goal after a deflection from Palace defender Pape Souare.

But then 21-year-old Jordan Amavi, making his second appearance for Villa, gifted possession for Scott Dann to lay on Bakary Sako's winner.

The two disparate plays led Sherwood to say "what you see is what you get with young players."

"You saw Traore light it up, he's got no fear," Sherwood said.

"On the flip side you see a young boy and outstanding player in Amavi make the wrong decision at the wrong time to take someone on that late in game, and unfortunately we came away with nothing.

"We created chances and unfortunately we were unable to take them.

"Palace came out a better side in the second half. They scored, we managed to wrestle our way back in, (so) to lose with three minutes to go was devastating.

"They didn't have to work hard for both goals."
