One-club man Daniele De Rossi drops hint at final season with Roma

Italian international Daniele De Rossi hinted at what could be his final season in a Roma shirt as he targets "most beautiful" season of his one-club career.

De Rossi, 33, has only played for one club in his 15-year career, racking up more than 400 appearances, but has only two Coppa Italia titles to show for it.

With close friend and club captain Francesco Totti also into a possible final season with the Roma, De Rossi is hoping for to land the league title, having finished second in Serie A on seven occasions.

"The contract? I'm calm, because I'm not thinking whether or not it will be my last year of the contract," De Rossi said.

"These are conversations that I must have with my family, sooner or later I'll have to think about it, but not now.

"But it could also be the last season, so why not make it the most beautiful of my career?

"Now I have to forget about it. My goal is to have a great season.

"I do not think now about what I will do, a mature player must be in step with his physique and every decision we'll take will be taken with clear thought."

The 2006 World cup winner understands that defending champions Juventus are the strongest team in the league on paper, but cited the success stories of unfancied teams like Premier League champions Leicester City and Euro 2016 champions Portugal as inspiration for his side.

"Sometimes in football the stronger club doesn't win, but other clubs win," he added.

"We have the examples of Portugal [at Euro 2016] and Leicester [in the Premier League].

"We have to work hard and don't think about Juventus or Napoli players, but only of our matches."

Following a successful preseason tour in the International Champions Cup with a notable 2-1 win over Liverpool, Roma will open their league campaign on Aug. 21 at home to Udinese, while Juventus take on Fiorentina on the same day.
