Francesco Totti hoping to end Roma career at 40 with silverware

Francesco Totti is hoping to end his career on a high as he prepares for his 25th season with Roma.

The Giallorossi captain earned a one-year extension to his Roma contract thanks to some impressive performances towards the end of last season, and he now hopes to end his career in style -- by lifting a trophy at the age of 40.

"We always try to give the most, but we know it's an extremely tough struggle," the 39-year-old told Roma's official website. "We've got an extremely competitive and strong team in front of us -- Juventus.

"They've proven that in the last five years, but I hope that the coach, the club and the players work to narrow the gap and aim for one of the most important trophies in football.

"I see beautiful things when I look back on my career. I've won trophies -- some say just a few, but I actually think we won quite a lot. I hope I'll be able to add some more silverware this last season too, although it won't be easy."

Roma are nevertheless working hard on making that dream come true, with one of Luciano Spalletti's notoriously tough summer training camps.

"I know what we are in for here," Totti said from Pinzolo. "It's a different preparation than other teams -- it's hard work but it's good work. The workloads are never back-breaking, and we're also smiling a lot.

"It's a special feeling. It's also my 25th consecutive camp with the same team -- which I don't think many other players have done. That's a great source of pride for me. We're all happy to be here and work hard together for Roma."
