Francesco Totti sent home by Roma boss Luciano Spalletti - reports

Francesco Totti has been dropped from Roma's squad and sent home by coach Luciano Spalletti, according to Sky Sport Italia and Gazzetta dello Sport.

Totti, 39, left the team's prematch get-together on Sunday morning after being told by Spalletti that he would not be considered for Sunday night's Serie A clash with Palermo.

Spalletti is reported to be incensed by Totti's remarks in an RAI interview in which he called for more respect and said the only words he exchanges with the Roma coach are "good morning" and "good evening."

The Roma captain played only the final few minutes of the club's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday and has featured for only half an hour in Serie A since Spalletti arrived last month -- even though he insists he is now fully fit.

Totti's reported exclusion on Sunday is unlikely to help his cause as he seeks a contract extension beyond the end of the current season.

Club president James Pallotta is due in Rome in the coming days and a meeting with Totti is on his list of appointments.
