Roma forward Gervinho sidelined and will miss Barcelona fixture

Roma have been dealt a blow ahead of a condensed period of important fixtures by losing Gervinho to a thigh injury.

Gervinho, 28, picked up a thigh strain while on international duty last week, and faces three weeks on the sidelines, according to his club.

"Gervinho underwent tests this morning which revealed he is suffering from a thigh strain," read a statement on asroma.it.

"The Ivorian forward, who has struck seven goals for the Giallorossi this season, went off after 72 minutes of his national team's match against Liberia on November 17. He is expected to be sidelined for three weeks."

As a result, the Ivory Coast forward misses Saturday's trip to Bologna and the Champions League clash at Barcelona on Tuesday.

He is also expected to miss Serie A fixtures with Atalanta and Torino, while he is a doubt for Roma's final Champions League fixture of 2015 at home to BATE Borisov on Dec. 9, but could be back the following weekend to face Napoli.

Roma coach needs to find an alternative not only for Gervinho, but also for Mohamed Salah, who is out for a month with an ankle injury.

Francesco Totti is also still sidelined after tearing his thigh on Sept. 26. The Roma captain is hopeful of making a return in early December.
