Seydou Keita likens Roma to Juventus after strong start to season

Roma midfielder Seydou Keita said his side are reminiscent of the Juventus team that almost won the Treble last season.

Juve marched to a fourth straight Scudetto while also winning the Coppa Italia and reaching the final of the Champions League in 2015-16.

The Giallorossi's 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday night came off the back of an unbeaten start to the Serie A season, which has seen Rudi Garcia's men already establish a six-point advantage over Juve.

That start has raised expectations among the club's fans and, while it is still early in the season, Keita feels there are parallels with last season's champions.

"In terms of our collective spirit, this Roma side has reminded me a lot of the team which, last year, almost won the Treble," he wrote on Twitter. "This is the way to go, humbly. FORZA ROMA."

Roma are back in action this Sunday when they host Sassuolo before travelling to Sampdoria next Wednesday. A home game against Carpi follows before the Giallorossi travel to Belarus to face BATE Borisov.

For a reminder of how things can change quickly, however, Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has recalled the start Roma made two years ago, when they ended Garcia's first season in charge empty-handed.

"Two years ago, they won 10 in a row," Mancini said, referring to the season in which Roma ended up 17 points behind Juve despite their stunning start.

Mancini, whose Inter side have won their first three Serie A fixtures, added: "It's important to make a good start as it settles you, but there are some well organised sides around."

Meanwhile, Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan has apologised to Rafinha for his foul on the Barca midfielder which saw the Brazilian tear the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The Belgian said he "didn't mean to hurt" the 22-year-old, who has been ruled out of action for six months.

"Hello @rafinha, I am sorry about the bad news, I didn't mean to hurt you. I hope to see you soon on the field, hugs!" Nainggolan wrote in Spanish.
