Man United target Kevin Strootman: I am giving everything for Roma return

Manchester United target Kevin Strootman is "giving it everything" on his comeback from injury, although the Netherlands international will not make his return for Roma until next season.

Strootman, 25, needed a second operation on his knee in less than a year back in January, sidelining him for six further months after already missing eight months through injury in 2014.

The midfielder -- who United boss Louis van Gaal was "interested" in signing last summer -- is not due to return until June and says he is missing being involved, but hopes to be back soon.

"I'm training as much as I can each day to get back with my teammates as soon as possible," he at a meeting with children at a school in Rome on Thursday, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I hope to be back soon, living those emotions again. I'm giving it everything."

Strootman has made just seven appearances in the past 15 months due to his knee, which forced him to miss the World Cup last summer.

He is putting in full shifts on a daily basis at Roma's Trigoria training ground to ensure his muscles do not lose mass, while he has been able to step up his work regime after removing a protective frame around his knee a fortnight ago.

Strootman will work throughout the summer vacation to ensure he is fit and ready for the start of preseason training in July and back to full strength for next season, adding: "I want to help my team."
