Rudi Garcia: Roma have become unrecognisable

Roma coach Rudi Garcia says his side have become "unrecognisable" after their latest draw saw them potentially lose further ground on Serie A leaders Juventus.

Roma's fourth draw in a row and 10th in their last 13 league matches could see them fall 11 points behind Juventus on Monday night and Garcia was not in the mood to defend his team were held 0-0 at Chievo Verona.

"Since we played this badly, it's already something that we didn't lose," the Frenchman said at a news conference. "But that's scant consolation -- my team was unrecognisable."

Garcia's disdain did not end there, however, as he expressed his concern that things could get even worse this season.

"The team was poor and this was an ugly draw," he said. "We could have played on for two or three hours and we still wouldn't have been able to score. There are some defeats which are encouraging and then there are draws which are worrying, and this is one of those worrying draws.

"We got all our choices wrong. It's not an excuse, but the pitch didn't help us keep the ball either. We got too many passes wrong, especially in the first half, which was really ugly. I can't explain why we played so badly, considering we'd been playing well and we weren't in any sort of form crisis.

"I get the feeling that the afternoon we spent watching videos of Chievo was a waste of time. The only positive thing is we've picked up a point away from home, despite playing badly.

"I've got to say I am shocked by how negative we were. The ugliest thing about this game, though, is the horrible injury to [Federico] Mattiello. It's saddening to see a lad carried off like that."

The 19-year-old defender was operated on immediately after the game after breaking his leg in a challenge with Radja Nainggolan, although the Belgian midfielder was not to blame for an unfortunate tackle that is expected to sideline the player for seven months.
