Roma boss Rudi Garcia angered by Serie A touchline ban, set to appeal

Roma coach Rudi Garcia has vowed he will fight to clear his name after being banned for two matches for allegedly attempting to assault a steward.

The Lega Serie A sanctioned the ban based on a statement made by the steward, who claims Garcia tried to hit him at the end of Genoa's 1-0 defeat at home to the Giallorossi.

And that is the sole piece of evidence the Lega have used to justify the suspension, which the Roma boss says he is going to contest.

"I cannot accept that somebody is trying to blacken my name," he wrote on Twitter. "I am going to fight with every means to defend myself from this injustice and from these lies."

Garcia added that he will "not accept people trying to attribute to me aggressive behaviour that I did not adopt" as the ban sets a dangerous precedent.

"In light of the unfounded accusations which have been levelled at me, and the sanction of which I am a victim, I am denouncing this attack on my honour and my reputation," he said. "All my career as a footballer, educator and coach testify for my exemplary conduct.

"I will not accept people trying to attribute to me aggressive behaviour that I did not adopt, which I deplore and which is contrary to my education."

While Garcia is battling with the authorities to have his ban overturned, Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has succeeded in wiping out the one-game suspension he was given for insulting an official at the end of his side's 1-1 draw with Sampdoria at the weekend.

And Allegri, too, refused to accept the accusations made by the Lega.

"I was shocked when I found out about it -- I got a message and I thought it was a joke," he said at a news conference. "I think there's a difference between an insult and an imprecation and I believe my behaviour towards the referees and their assistants has always been pretty correct so far.

"I'm not a saint, though, and a curse or two does come out, but only when permitted."

Allegri will therefore be on the bench as usual for his side's Serie A trip to his former club Cagliari on Thursday night, while Garcia must wait to discover where he will watch Roma's clash with AC Milan from on Saturday night.
