Roma snap up Adem Ljajic
Roma have completed the signing of midfielder Adem Ljajic from Fiorentina after confirming the sale of Erik Lamela to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Giallorossi have splashed out €11 million on Ljajic, 21, with a further €4 million worth of add-ons owed depending on future appearances and club successes.
Roma received €30 million for the sale of Lamela, 21, with the potential for an additional €5 million to be earned from the deal.
The Serie A club announced the transfers in a statement to the Italian stock exchange on Wednesday.
The Serbia international, who has signed a four-year contract with the Giallorossi, could make his debut against Hellas Verona on Sunday.
And Gervinho, who was officially presented as a Roma player while Ljajic was in talks with the club, says his arrival significantly strengthens the Roma attack.
“I didn’t know him, but I feel that we are going to do great things together,” Gervinho said. “The Roma attack is competitive. Some players have gone, but others are arriving. And it’s going to be an honour playing with [Francesco] Totti. When I was in Africa, I used to watch him on television and now I’m delighted to see him every day.”
The Ivory Coast international is also delighted to be working under coach Rudi Garcia once again after playing under the Frenchman at Lille.
And Gervinho believes Garcia has more faith in him than his old boss Arsene Wenger did at Arsenal.
“I respect him [Wenger] and I’m pleased that I played under him, yet I never got the chance to play more games,” Gervinho said.
“I know that I’m going to have to work hard to play regularly here, but knowing Garcia is an advantage. I will only play if I am able to convince him during the week. I always had a great relationship with him and he showed faith in me. He’s an intelligent person and he has played an important part in my career.”
Meanwhile, Fiorentina have already found a replacement for Ljajic by confirming the signing of Ante Rebic from RNK Split.
The 19-year-old underwent a medical and signed a four-year contract in Florence on Wednesday.
